MAHATMA GANDHI UNIVERSITY
NSS Unit makes History
Drive against Pollution
QUALITATIVELY HIGH, SOCIALLY RELEVANT
AND STUDENT CENTERED EDUCATION.
At the outset, let us thank God Almighty for allowing the establishment of Stella Maris College of Commerce and Industry (SMCCI) a self-financing institution, affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, at Kizhumury, Ramamangalam, a picturesque village in the outskirts of Kochi, the commercial capital of Kerala.
The idea of launching an educational institution crossed the mind of Mr. Arun Paul, Director of SMCCI, when he met a young man years back. After graduation, he was helping his father to collect rubber latex at an estate and was not sure about the next step in life. Mr. Arun Paul could guide that young man to join a professional course and thus set him on the way to a more rewarding life.
Later, during his career spanning two decades as a Human Resources professional in India and abroad, Mr Arun Paul realized that youth lack the competencies required to be "employable" though all were 'qualified' in their respective area of studies. He also observed that they do not have the insight to take the right step towards a fulfilling career. He could fathom the need for an initiative that would enhance employability of the youth and give them a rewarding life. Eventually, when the time came, he decided to start an educational institution to fulfil this objective. Thus SMCCI was established in 2014 with the vision to participate in the national human resource development mission.
To play a key role in enhancing competency and employability of young rural population by imparting quality education and implanting a value system from a well-equipped campus and to participate in the national human resources development process.
